Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I teach in a STEM SmartLab that we emphasize discovery and exploration. Teams of learners apply a wide range of technologies to project work as they rotate through a carefully crafted sequence of learning engagements. This ensures a broad base of foundational experiences and an ever-changing mix of ideas and inspiration.
Given the diversity and varied backgrounds within our student body, we have placed an emphasis on having students work collaboratively.
Our school is majority of minority students including Hispanic, African American and Asian, with a 95% free and reduced status. Along with the majority of teachers certified in ELL strategies.
In the technology classroom we provide as much opportunity as possible for students to experience and create with technology, which includes but is not limited to Augmented Reality, Programming, Robotics, Vex Kits, Game Design, Typing, Collaborative tools, and so much more...
My Project
Students will be working on group projects, this area will be inviting and support collaboration.
The Alexa will be in the area for students to use, ask her questions, help with spelling, set timers.
The rug and chairs will make the area and classroom inviting. It will define the area that the collaborative flexible seating will be used. Students work in pairs, so having two beach chairs and two bean bag chairs in this area will assist in pair work. Students will use iPads, engineering notebook, or laptops in the collaborative corner. Group projects is a huge part of our classroom.
