My students need a variety of strategy games to promote thinking, problem-solving, collaboration, and language skills. With these games they can work as a team and will have a chance to practice conversational English skills.

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students are very diverse and come from all different cultures and backgrounds. More than 80% of our students qualify for free or reduced lunch. Many students and their families are English language learners, and our campus has a large bilingual program for students whose home language is Spanish.
They are caring, considerate, and creative kids who need collaborative spaces in which to grow and practice their language skills.
Each child on my campus deserves to have a welcoming common learning space to enjoy.
My Project
Collaboration and conversation is the key to creating a rich and welcoming learning environment! I would like to add board games to my library collection for several reasons. First, there are many students who do not feel like the library is a place for them because they may not be strong readers. I would like to have a way to promote the library and get these less enthusiastic readers into the library and from there I can build a relationship and help develop a love of reading in those students. Secondly, we have a very large population of English language learners on our campus. Board games are a fantastic way for these students to gain experience using conversational English in a setting that is not tied to academic performance which relieves the stress and anxiety of using their new English language skills. I would also like to use these games to host family game nights to promote family and communication involvement in our school and the lives of our students.
