My Students
Our school has a long history embedded into the community we serve. Students are excited to attend school where many of their parents and even grandparents went before them. I have an exciting opportunity to start a STEAM Resource program for the first time! When you walk into my classroom you won't see students sitting in desks diligently taking notes, but instead you'll see students brainstorming ideas, drawing images, building models, testing their solution, and more!
My students are spunky, inquisitive, and hardworking.
"I never knew school could be this fun!" a student shouted to a group member as they were working on a STEAM project. It is moments like these that push me to ensure that my students always have opportunities for hands-on, real-life learning experiences. It is wonderful donors, like yourself, that can help me to provide these experiences to our youngest learners!
My Project
In the STEAM resource class I have the exciting opportunity to work with all students in kindergarten through fifth grade! However, can you imagine a little kindergartner trying to climb in chairs that are made for a fifth grader? Knowing the drastic difference in learners, I want to provide a learning environment that is conducive for all of my students.
By providing a wide range of seating options, students will have an opportunity to determine how they learn best, while also learning how to work in a group environment.
Since students will be learning through projects, flexible seating is a perfect avenue for this class because students can pull out a kneeling pad as they sit on the hard floor drawing designs or a yoga mat as they build their model on a low-level table.
The logic games, such as iTrax and Dr. Eureka Speed Logic Game, will help students learn how to collaborate as a team. They will provide the learning opportunity to discuss how we need to share ideas, roles, and successes among everyone in their group. I am excited to help my students reach their full potential as active participants in group projects!
