My students need colored organizer bins that allow them structure and organization. A mailbox to keep their papers orderly, and a pocket chart for headphones. As well as a Swiffer WetJet to help keep germs away!
As a teacher working in a high poverty area, my students are constantly faced with many challenges both in and out of the classroom. They are subjected to many high risk obstacles that can bring many emotions. Despite their many challenges, I am trying to provide my students with a safe and welcoming space. A space where they are free to learn, grow, create and imagine.
My students have the potential to be creators, inventors and much more.
The students all receive free lunch based on the socioeconomic standings of this city. The school has about eight hundred students and of those students, most come from single parent households, poverty and/or shelter homes. Such difficulties may prevent them from getting ahead in life and progressing to their full potential. Entering my classroom, I focus on who they are and not their challenges. From the moment they walk into the room until the moment they leave, I want to create a positive room that inspires the students to grow, excel and imagine.
My Project
My students need colorful organization bins, a mailbox, and a pocket chart to provide structure and organization within the classroom! The organization bins will be used on a daily basis for a variety of subjects and purposes. These days students need a variety of tools and interventions that take their progress to the next level. By using such colorful organization bins, they will always know where their Math and Ela tools are located, have a place for their pencils, and have an area to place their center work according to their assigned color. Without providing the students with such tools, they will be disorganized and the classroom management will lack.
Students are encouraged to work collaboratively with their fellow classmates which motivates and pushes them to their full potential.
Because they are constantly moving around the classroom and switching spots, the area can become full of germs. Having a Swiffer Wet Jet in the classroom will help to eliminate such viruses and germs floating around the classroom. In turn it will help students pass through flu and cold season with no problems at all.
In the beginning of the year the teachers job is to set up a well oiled classroom in which they know the routines and set up a welcoming spot for their students. By providing them with name tags that also act as a Math and Ela tool, we are setting them up for immediate success. The Velcro and laminate pouches will help make this all come to life.
