This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Our school was founded on three main beliefs: College begins in Kindergarten, demographics do not determine our destiny and education is freedom. On August 11th of 2015, we opened three Kindergarten classrooms and served 96 students; we now serve 480 students from Kindergarten to fourth grade.

Our school offers a unique program; we are a tuition-free, public, college-preparatory elementary school.

Our mission is evident in the population we serve, as our student body is comprised of 91.8% economically disadvantaged scholars who receive free or reduced price lunch and 69% English language learners and 12.7% Special Education scholars.

From the moment students walk into our school, they are surrounded by visuals of universities and greeted with a reminder of why they are at school each day. Since our program began in 2015, Our school has outperformed all neighborhood schools in the East Tulsa area.

My Project

I am requesting eight Ozobots, dry erase markers, a charger and sticker codes so they can have an opportunity to learn coding. My scholars will be able to learn how coding works in a fun way with Ozobot. They will have opportunity to code with markers and papers or visual programming with a device.

Scholars will learn basic coding concepts like cause/effect, critical thinking and debugging.

With this project scholars will draw lines on the paper using markers and they will code using some color codes. Ozobots use sensors follow the line that they drew on the paper.

Scholars can choose speed, direction, cool moves codes and watch how Ozobot acts as it reads these codes. My scholars will have fun learning coding with Ozobots.
