My Students

My student population is uniquely diverse. We have many nationalities, cultures, and abilities in our charter school. Being a charter school, our students choose to come to our STEM (science, technology, engineering, mathematics) based school. We are a Title 1 school with students that exemplify to be the best of the best. Many of our students are on free or reduced lunches.

Our school is in its second year of having a coding class. The students enjoy coming to coding because it is new, different, and our school has a vast of materials to introduce and teach coding. Computer science jobs will be the need of the future, so introducing coding skill to children earlier in their schooling shows them all they can do!

My Project

The OSMO materials I’m asking help teach my younger students coding while on an iPad. They will use iPads to make codes happen on the screen using direction blocks that are in the computer games. I’m asking for the starter pack because it is a sample of coding projects and math related tools.

My younger students seem more comfortable using an iPad because they use them at home, so this is better for them.

This program is hands on and they get to move the direction pieces around in front of the iPad. What they do in front of the iPad will be taking place on the iPad screen. This hands on learning will help my little learners grow and continue their love of coding.
