My Students

Our students are energetic, active learners. They attend a Title I school and their parents often struggle to buy supplies, uniforms, and provide lunch. The parents do try their best to send their children to school every day, so they can get a proper education, meals, and exercise and play in a safe environment.

The students try hard at everything they do, from in the classroom to on the playground, because they like school and feel safe at school.

The teachers try equally as hard because we know they are our future and need dedicated educators who care about their success and well-being.

My Project

This summer I am finishing my certificate in Early Childhood STEM and plan to incorporate computer science in my virtual classroom and actual classroom when we return. Unfortunately, many apps for students to learn how to code are only available on Apple products and my school does not have the funds to purchase iPads, however, many of the apps are free once we have access to an iPad.

Coding is a literacy and the skills they learn through coding will help them in their traditional academics.

Coding teaches students how comprehend, generate, communicate, and express ideas which is fundamental to education. Coding at young age is fun and will instill in them a love for computer science. The job market is full of computer science jobs that we either don't have the workforce for or the workforce is not diverse enough and with your help I can help educate young computer programmers who will continue their education in computer science even after they leave my classroom.
