I am a third-year teacher. I teach at a low-income, high poverty school district. My students arrive with very few supplies. They face many challenges to their learning each day. Regardless, they are very creative and love to learn.
My students are incredibly enthusiastic learners, always excited to use new materials I bring to the classroom.
As a teacher in a low-income district, I am struggling to find materials for my students.
My students appreciate when I bring in something new for them to use. Their eyes light up and excited questions are asked when I sort through new supplies or bring out new materials.
My Project
Botley the coding robot is a great introduction to coding for my students. Botley is a screen free and hands on robot that my students can practice coding skills with. We would like three Botley Bots and two accessory kits.
Coding allows my students to practice planning, cooperative thinking and math.
My students can work in pairs to design mazes to guide the Botley through. This is a great beginning coding activity for my students and can become more complex as their skills grow.
Coding can inspire students into careers related to science, engineering, technology, and mathematics. This will be a great introduce and learning tool for them.
