Celebrate Black Teachers and Students

This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.

My Students

I have amazing students who come from different backgrounds. Our school is located in the poorest zip code in our county, 100% of our students are on free lunch. They are smart, fun, talkative bunch that are always up for an adventure. I use STEM in my class currently as part of center rotations. This has, by far, been the favorite of my students. They get house technology to build and create. For older students, I have the opportunity to teach additional information, such as problem solving through math and science.

My Project

For the 2020-2021 school year, our school is implementing a S.T.E.M class for grades Kindergarten through Fifth Grade. This project will benefit 12 classes or an estimated 144 students during the school year. The fee would pay for the Pathfinder's summer courses, travel expenses (airfare and any associated cost) and accommodations.

The Pathfinders Institute's summer coding classes is geared to assist educators in building a curriculum for their S.T.E.M.

class through experienced professionals.

Through this course I can become more equipped and prepared to tackle our school's new program and also assist other teachers in implementing S.T.E.M. in their curriculum.
