Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I am a deaf ed teacher in a title one school. My students range from hard-of-hearing to profoundly deaf. Most come from homes where communication is limited to a handful of signs. All of them rely on sign language to communicate. Due to the lack of communication at home my students have difficulty with everyday vocabulary along with learning academic vocabulary. Our school is the regional day school for our area. That means all of my students have to ride a bus from their home school district anywhere from 30 mins to 2 hrs to get to school every day.
Many time my students are not exposed to the same opportunities as their hearing peers, and when they go do something exciting they can not communicate about it.
I want my students to experience language rich activities that encourage creativity and exploration.
My Project
Technology is such a huge part of our world today. I like to enhance as many lessons as much as I can by including technology. Thought the use of the coding mice and ozobots they will be able to manipulate through mazes and create their own projects. They are very kid friendly and a perfect for teaching cause-effect, directional language, and early programming skills for 1st grade.
Early experiences in coding leads to stronger skills in reading, math science ,and social studies.
Ozobots and coding mice provide a strong foundation for learning and will support the development of early computing skills. The possibilities for language rich activities are endless.
