Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Our school is 5 miles from the United States/Mexico border. We are a Title 1 school, which means at least 50% of our students have a free/reduced lunch. Students come from all over the county as part of an overall equity project. Therefore, our student body is very diverse socioeconomically, culturally and ethnically.

Our organization believes that educational equity is important and wants every student, no matter their background or neighborhood, to have a chance at a quality education.

The seventh graders I teach are full of energy and a desire to learn. They vary in interests, abilities, extra-curricular activities and passions. Our goal as a school is to channel those qualities and skills of our students through various avenues of our school projects. We aim to design projects that allow everyone to participate and be challenged academically, socially and intelllectually.

My Project

Teaming up with the Humanities class, our project aims to raise awareness of global issues facing youth. As a math/science class, we plan to propose ways to use coding software and robots to present solutions to various issues like finding clean water. For example, there are youth who can't go to school because they walk miles each day to access clean water.

With these materials, students can create prototypes of solutions that would help solve real world problems.

We plan to raise awareness of these issues at our community exhibition and help raise money to help these particular issues and organizations who may have the actual hardware and infrastructure to build such solutions.
