Celebrate Black Teachers and Students

This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.

My Project

As computer science continues to shape the world around us, from smartphones to self-driving cars, the need for accessible educational resources in our classrooms has never been greater. Despite the ubiquity of technology, many students find traditional coding materials uninspiring. To bridge this gap, we aim to create a captivating library filled with graphic novels and fiction books centered on coding and computer science themes.

These novels and how-to books are more than just reading material; they are gateways to understanding and imagination.

By integrating literature that combines storytelling with computer science, we can offer our students a unique approach to learning coding principles. Engaging with characters and plots that intertwine with technical challenges will make abstract concepts tangible and exciting.

Our planned library will include a variety of carefully selected graphic novels and how-to books that are not only educational but also fun. Titles like "Secret Coders" by Gene Luen Yang, which merges classic storytelling with logical puzzles, and "Girls Who Code" by Reshma Saujani, which inspires with real-world coding applications, are perfect examples. These books will help students visualize coding scenarios and enhance their problem-solving skills, all while promoting inclusivity and diversity.

In addition, having these resources readily available in the classroom provides students a valuable 'brain break'—a chance to relax with a book that still contributes to their learning. This approach ensures that even downtime can foster a deeper connection with computer science.

Your support will not only enrich our classroom resources but also empower our students to see themselves as part of the exciting world of coding and technology. Every book you help provide builds a foundation for a future innovator.
