My first-grade classroom is a place for hands-on discovery. The students succeed through an EL Education model. All children are taught to focus on the quality of their work and character. This is done through questioning, creating, testing and exploring their own ideas.
Although my students come from many different backgrounds, they come to school every day excited to learn!
Because of our rural setting, most students ride the bus for over forty-five minutes each morning. Over sixty percent of these children qualify for the free or reduced-price food program.
My Project
The Osmo system brings together physical play and technology. Students manipulate numbers, letters and coding blocks to solve mystery puzzles from the screen.
Osmo will provide students with another way to collaborate and problem solve together during small group center time.
The Osmo programs will be used at different times throughout the day. They will be used during small group math times to reinforce number sense. Students will use both number and dot tiles to solve on screen tasks, along with coding blocks. It will also be used during foundational skills time to improve letter recognition and decoding.
This adaptive program would make a huge difference in my classroom. The app saves individual student progress and challenges each in their own way. It provides them with time to be creative and use critical thinking skills. This is a wonderful independent practice activity while I am teaching small groups.
