Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Our middle school is the 2019 "Top School" in Denver and the top school in the district! Our student body consists of a diverse population; predominately Latin and Black. Even if we were not in a virtual teaching environment, our technology or equipment is limited. Every student receives a laptop, however, a 1:1 ratio of student to equipment/ microcontrollers (i.e. Adafruit) would allow students to continue their coding/programming learning.
My Project
Even if we were not in a virtual teaching environment, technology or equipment are limited. Every student receives a laptop, however, a 1:1 ratio of student to equipment/ microcontrollers (i.e. Adafruit) would allow students to continue their coding/programming learning. We will be using Code.org and Adafruit to learn to code and create. Code.org offers free curriculum and professional development to use Adafruit with targeted unit lessons. Code.org has partnered with Adafruit to create a classroom kit of Circuit Playground boards and accessories necessary for implementing CS Discoveries Unit 6. Adafruit regularly publishes tutorials featuring their products. The tutorials show how to build projects, highlighting their products' abilities and strengths. "Ask an Engineer" is a weekly show that was started in 2010 in Fried's, the creator of Adafruit) living room. The show is broadcast on YouTube with behind-the-scenes content available on Discord. Show-and-Tell is Adafruit's live show where makers from all around the world share electronic projects they are currently working on. 3D Hangouts with Noe and Pedro Ruiz goes over the 3D printing industry. The weekly John Park's Workshop show is broadcast live from John Edgar Park's workshop as he builds creative technology projects. Wearable Electronics with Becky Stern was Adafruit's live show dedicated to the wearable electronics industry.
