This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I teach in a high poverty elementary school with close to 800 students that is located in a neighborhood that is settled in the middle of an industrial area. Aside from all of the trucks that rumble by, there is a high rate of crime in the surrounding area. All of the students receive a free lunch because of their socio-economic status. My students are faced with several challenges, both in and out of the classroom. They all are English Language Learners and many of them have learning disabilities. Despite the many challenges they face, they are always ready to learn, especially if I provide them with creative and meaningful learning experiences.

Seeing the excitement in kids' eyes when they learn something new makes teaching the best job ever.

My students need as many hands-on experiences as possible in school, to enhance and reinforce their learning.

My Project

As an elementary school teacher, I feel compelled to provide my students with as many opportunities to learn and problem solve. With so much technology out there, I feel that this is the best way to enhance student learning and develop their lifelong learning skills. I am requesting a Nintendo Switch and Nintendo Minecraft game. Nintendo makes the difficult task of coding more concrete for students​ while providing a visual of STEAM skills application in a fun and innovative way.

Through inquiry, students will build and create inventions of their own with the Nintendo Minecraft and test them on the Nintendo Switch.

This technology request is meant to be reused for many years to come. For most students, Nintendo Switch and the Nintendo Minecraft game will be an introduction to the world of coding, which will help open up a world of possibilities for them.
