Code & Roll: Sphero Adventures in Programming

Help me give my students tangible STEM experiences with the Sphero Mini 16-Pack of Programmable Robot Balls. This kit will introduce students to Computer Science and Coding as they explore engineering concepts.

My Project

The Sphero robots will provide students with a hands-on, interactive way to learn coding and problem-solving. By programming these robots, students will develop critical thinking skills, enhance their understanding of computational logic, and see real-time applications of their code. This approach makes abstract programming concepts more tangible and engaging, fostering creativity and collaboration as they experiment with different coding challenges.

The primary goal of this project is to introduce students to the fundamentals of coding in a fun and interactive way.

Through Sphero-based activities, students will learn programming logic, algorithms, and problem-solving strategies. Additionally, the project aims to strengthen teamwork and innovation by encouraging students to work together on challenges, such as obstacle courses and real-world simulations. Ultimately, we hope to spark a long-term interest in STEM fields and build students’ confidence in technology.

Our students are curious, creative, and eager to explore new ways of learning. They thrive when given the opportunity to engage in hands-on, experiential activities that connect classroom concepts to real-world applications. Many of them may not have had prior exposure to coding or robotics, and this project will provide an exciting entry point into the world of technology. Their enthusiasm for learning and their ability to collaborate and problem-solve make them a truly special group ready to take on new challenges!
