Mrs. Oviedo from Marietta GA is requesting books through DonorsChoose, the most trusted classroom funding site for teachers.
My students need resources such as Botley, Ozobot bit, and Bloxels to engage in hands-on coding and programming activities.
This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
Namaste, olá, bonjour are just a few of the ways my students say hello. With heritage languages from four continents, my English language learners are eager for new knowledge not only about English, but also about the world around them.
Always ready to explore, these hard-working, inquisitive young minds will amaze you with their determination and motivation.
Thoughtful and kind, together we establish a group culture that fosters teamwork and encourages respect for all regardless of cultural or linguistic background and academic abilities.
Today’s students need a classroom that produces academic success by engaging students in learning while preparing them for the careers and challenges they will face beyond their school years. Innovative teaching that integrates content and technology in a student centered learning environment is especially crucial for digital age language learners.
Your donations will help me better prepare my students for what they will encounter as they continue in their educational journey and beyond.
The products requested for this project are intended to engage language learners in a STEAM powered classroom. Having students collaborate to code Botley around the obstacles provided in the action challenge accessory pack will encourage problem solving, critical thinking, and promote their use of social and academic language.
Ozobot Bit will provide a hands-on way to learn programming while simultaneously helping students learn content and the corresponding vocabulary. From coding the correct sequence to a recently studied story, learning about geometric shapes, or calculating measurements, this tool will help my students develop technology skills alongside academic language.
Creating video games with Bloxels will allow students with limited vocabulary to express their ideas visually in an interactive and creative way. Student created work can then be used to provide instruction that addresses students’ language needs and targets language arts content skills (i.e. story elements-character, setting, etc.) in a way that is meaningful to the learner and relevant to success in the digital age.
As someone with a first-hand view of how hands-on instruction allows students of various academic levels, socioeconomic backgrounds, and English proficiency levels to find success, I know that your funding for our coding project will continue to help grow these young minds in amazing ways!
