My Project

At the high school and middle school levels, the aim of the Careers and Technical Education Department in our rural school district is to provide as much real-world application as possible. Periodic interviews with local community stakeholders, business owners, administration, parents, and students have a common denominator: coach the kids in critical thinking and problem-solving.

Coding Robots provide an opportunity for students to seamlessly mesh computational thinking and programming with problem-solving.

The devices are constructed with the intent to develop logic skills, exploration, and experimentation all while diagnosing and troubleshooting misfires. Offering a variety of coding equipment allows for differentiated learning of topics the students. It also broadens the applications for exploration of block/java/html coding languages that is appropriate for each level of learner.

In our classes, it seems that equipment such as these robots, it work best with two students per 'bot. The robots introduce physical computing with input/output exploration of 'action' of the hardware. The end goal is a working, programmed, varied robot that moves with controls coded as a solution.
