Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I am blessed with 16 First grade students in my classroom who are eager to learn and explore the world around them. However, my students come from many different backgrounds, which sometimes makes it difficult for students to be exposed to grade-level content at home.
Students come from homes that are unable to provide basic supplies, not to mention school supplies.
They are made up from a diverse set of backgrounds and include English language learners, special education students, and those receiving free or reduced-price lunches. Some of my students may even experience being homeless during the school year. Homelessness is an experience that individual people have, rather than a label. It is my goal as their teacher to provide them with basic necessities.
68% of our students receive free or reduced-price meals.
My students are very grateful for your support!
My Project
Winter has already arrived in our community and the temperatures are dipping low. As we greet our students in the morning, we see many of them walking to school in a thin sweatshirt, some in tee-shirts. They are unable to afford proper winter gear. Providing students with essential winter gear will give them the opportunity to enjoy the winter months outdoors safely, and comfortably. We are requesting winter jackets to keep my students warm throughout the winter months.
When temperatures frequently stay between 0 and 25 degrees, these jackets are essential during recess and during other outdoor learning.
My goal is to make sure my students have a warm coat to wear, along with the other winter essentials to safely play outside, learn outside, and simply be a kid. I am requesting coats to provide for my students in need.
