My Students
The students at our school range in grade level from Pre k -8th grade. Although they are placed into the correct grade level based on age range, that doesn't necessarily mean that they are reading at that particular grade level. For example you may have a student in the 4th grade but their reading level is 1st grade. This is the focus this year for our entire school building.
This is where guided reading truly helps.
Not only is guided reading a best practice but it is proven to help students that are below grade to increase their reading ability. None of the teachers at the school have a complete and/or fully functional guided reading library to perform this best practice. Just being able to get the sets I asked for will at least give the teachers an amazing start to help bring their students up to par on grade level.

I am the literacy coach at my school in Newark, NJ.
As a school in need of materials, none of my K-8 classrooms have any guided reading materials to use for differentiated instruction. All children learn and excel at a different pace. Therefore to help
It is vitally important to have books on all learning levels so that teachers can teach their students at their students' level of need.
It is proven that students learn better when instruction is differentiated. They feel more comfortable and confident when they are able to read a book on their individual level. This not only promotes academic growth but also social and emotional growth as well. My goal as a literacy coach is grow all my students. With the help of guided reading materials I can arm my teachers with the tools they need to reach this goal.
