My students need one "Friendly Loom" and two "Friendly Loom" starter kits.
FULLY FUNDED! Mrs. K.'s classroom raised $338
This project is fully funded
I am the Visual Arts Specialist for grades K-5 in an inner-city, Title I elementary school in South Carolina. My classroom is visited by the entire student body each week.
The pains of poverty greatly affects our students access to Arts Education. Children in our community have very few hands on art experiences outside of school. Our students would greatly benefit from an opportunity to use quality art equipment and supplies.
Experiencing weaving with a large Friendly Loom will allow development of a cooperative learning structure. It will truly be the gift that keeps on giving. When students work with their hands they achieve a sense of productive relaxation,or peace. As they work to complete an artistic product they feel satisfaction, confidence in their skills, and increased self-esteem. Students will be taught important social skills and positive attitudes towards working, learning, and modeling for each other the weaving process. Cooperation skills transfer to other academic subjects increasing student academic achievement throughout the school building. Finally, exhibiting the student made artworks in public spaces will help bring our school and community closer together.
The Friendly Loom and Friendly Loom Starter Kits will truly be the gift that keeps on giving. Your donation will provide each and every student in the school access quality art equipment and materials. Students of all ages will have opportunities to cooperatively create textiles, visualize math principles, learn about other cultures/communities as well as themselves and their community through the experience of weaving. The value of this cooperative art making experience is a priceless renewable resource.
