This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I am a fifth-grade teacher at a Title I school. My class is highly diverse. Immigrants and minorities are the majority of our school's demographic and poverty is a high hurdle. They have special needs and challenges.

The biggest challenge our students face is getting an education so that they can be successful adults.

Our students make an impact in their families and communities because they can speak and read English and they are able to assist and teach others.

My Project

I am requesting lots of books because interrupted learning kept my students from reading as much as they would have in school. Fifth grade studies US history these books will help my students learn about how other people have overcome hardships to lead successful lives so that they can feel heard and understood.

Above all, we want the students to know that they can succeed too by overcoming their own challenges.

We need to support our diverse students in developing connections to history and the world around them so they can feel that their unique perspectives have value. I am requesting science supplies so that the students will have an opportunity to conduct experiments and learn about the world around them.
