Help me give my students these iPads to complete their iReady tier lessons. Students are not able to be in compliance with teacher assigned lessons and minutes because their device is either broken or in need of repairs.
Imagine having a group of students who are as amazing as my students! They are enthusiastic and receptive learners who are anxious to learn just about anything. They are eager to learn and ambitious about new concepts and skills. I teach at a K-8 Center. I have a group of kids that are inquisitive, compassionate, and creative. As a teacher of ESOL, general ed., EBD, and gifted students, I understand the importance of integrating technology into daily instruction.
This group of students is phenomenal learners!
They are students who come to school with various needs and have unique personalities. Their needs are very different from their peers and vary. During this pandemic, it has become harder to reach them and meet their individual needs. Our school is a Title I school, which means the majority of the students get free or reduced lunch. They love to learn but are limited due to the lack of technology devices. Despite their shortcomings as students, they have a hunger for knowledge, excited, and happy to come to school and learn new things each day. However, it has become very difficult to meet their needs due to a lack of computer devices.
My Project
I work for one of the largest districts and Title I school. The need for technological devices has become a challenge. It is very difficult to meet students' needs because the technology piece is almost non-operating in my classroom. To enhance and engage a more fruitful learning environment for my students, I need this component to be up and running. One of my responsibilities as an educator is to provide a rigorous curriculum for all students and meet the goal of providing a differentiated setting by using technology in the classroom. However, it has become nearly impossible to meet their children's individual needs because their device is either broken or in need of repairs. When asking for a replacement, there are none available. The opportunity to receive instruction in the classroom setting is dependent and relies heavily on the technology piece and yet there is no budget for such tools. Infusing daily technology instruction can be beneficial in increase students' foundational skills, vocabulary, and comprehension skills in reading. Right now, it is nearly impossible because students have limited access to technology. The challenge to improve and move the lowest 25% group of students' reading scores on state assessment during this world crisis is becoming a burden. As we face uncharted waters and a perilous time during this pandemic, students need more support and assistance. This new model of delivery where students attend school virtually or receive instruction with dual modalities has pushed and placed a great demand for a more progressive plan to increase reading instruction through technology. If we are to continue preparing students for the 21st century or the global world, we must be equipped with the right technology tools/devices to do so. Frankly, the virtual setting is the norm and the right tools do make a difference.
