This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
My students are all Title I and mostly ENL ELA students who do some of their best work when we focus on their social emotional learning. It gives them the ability and the flexibility to use multiple intelligences to illustrate what they have learned. The majority of my students have been deeply affected by Covid as many of them lost family members because Jackson Heights was one of the epicenters of the Alpha variant of Covid. My students have been struggling with their writing and reading, but when they are able to discuss and create projects about social emotional topics, they feel heard and it seems to motivate their own work. We create beautiful murals that showcase their growth of in their Social Emotional Learning. We need a variety of markers in order to do this. All of our children deserve motivation to encourage growth in their academics especially in their reading and writing!
