This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My K-6 school is located in a very impoverished area of Fresno, California. Several of the students come from a single-parent households, and the majority of parents work more than one job. Several students have experienced traumatic life experiences.

Students are motivated to do well in school, and they really care about each other.

They face several challenges daily outside of school. School is the place for them to receive meals, sometimes sleep, receive counseling, and have positive adult interactions. We focus on academics and social-emotional learning.

My Project

Two hundred minutes every ten school days are required for physical education. The new equipment will help motivate students when we go outside for daily physical education. Students want to play basketball, soccer, and volleyball; however, most do not know the fundamentals. The current equipment is old and falling apart.

These kids deserve new equipment.

The additional equipment will allow more students to participate instead of just standing and waiting. The year of distance learning not only affected them academically and social-emotionally but also physically. Let's get them moving and improve their health!
