My Students
My students love books and all kinds of it. They are constantly digging through the library shelves to get their hands on a book. Each time they finish a book, they come back for more. As a teacher I'm constantly trying to restock and provide a variety of text for them.
Standards are demanding more and my group of English Language Learners are struggling to catch up.
Coming from a Title I school, my students are children who are eager to learn and have a limited amount of resources. This project will allow us to get the books that we need to make our unit study successful.
My Project
My students need 27 copies of Dark Waters Rising and 15 copies of Eight Days: Story of Haiti. These books will help us build a strong foundation for close reading workshops to improve my students' literacy skills. With these books, they can work together in buddy groups or independently to tackle their personal targeted goals. Not only will they become better readers, they will be exposed to personal accounts of people who have lived through natural disasters making them aware of current events.
The donations for this project will fund the cost of books for our unit study on natural disasters.
With these books, students will learn how to empathize, sympathize, and become activists in society.
