Climbing Walls Increase Physical Activity Where Students Wouldn't Otherwise Participate
Help me give my students a climbing wall where they can improve their physical strength and coordination, and learn about a unique activity for a lifetime of fitness.
A climbing wall will not only provide an activity for students who otherwise would not be interested in physical activity, but it will enhance upper body strength, increase our variety of fitness stations, offer a skill for students with disabilities that might not otherwise be able to participate in, and introduce a unique sport for a lifetime of fitness.
I strive to find activities that incorporate fitness and fun for my students.
This is so they know that even if they are not a naturally active person, there are things they can do independently as well as with others that give them fitness, as well as a sense of achievement and enjoyment. A climbing wall offers a team and independent element to a fun, growing and strength-building sport. In addition, the ability to maintain the push-ups standard we strive to do, will be enhanced with the arm strength it takes to work across a climbing wall.
We have very little storage for multiple activities of equipment in our facility. Our school population is a growing 700 kindergarten through 5th grade, and offers services for bilingual education. We are situated in a rural farming community where families have to travel to involve their children in extracurricular activities, not to mention added expenses that many of our families do not have the finances for. We love our students and want the best opportunities for them.
