My Students

My students come to school energized and motivated even when dealing with their day-to-day struggles at home and in their communities. As kids, they should not have to deal with the issues they face daily and at their tender ages. They come from struggling backgrounds and also have a variety of disabilities. They struggle with their emotions, social skills, and daily lives. Like all kids, they need love and support. They need encouragement and to be motivated. Given all the issues in their lives, my students are great, loving, and caring students. They look out for each other, and they work hard in the classroom.

As a Title I school with more than 90% of our students receiving free or reduced-price lunch, they already feel as if they are at a disadvantage, especially coupled with their learning disabilities.

They work hard to accept new challenges daily and at completing each task. They are eager to learn, but they need as many learning tools as possible. Given the educational resources, my students will continue to make significant improvements in learning and daily life skills.

My Project

My students love technology. However, they also struggle with reading. If we could combine reading with technology, it will motivate them to want to read more. I want my students to be inspired to read. That is the only way that they will improve in their reading.

By providing these Kindles for my students, they will start to see that there is a world of literature at their fingertips.

They can read and explore all sorts of different genres in the classroom. We can use the Kindles during literacy circles, independent reading and book clubs. Please help me give my students Kindles in order to build up their literary skills! As middle school students with disabilities, the kindles also make it easier to magnify the text, enable read aloud for the major struggles being faced, and highlight key words and phrases.
