Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Performing plays, story reenactments and improvising on "stage" helps my students express themselves, as well as begin to love the art of theater! Help us capture these moments with a camera/video recorder as well as continue their love of music.

I am a teacher in a school that services students who come from low income working class families that live in or close to one of Los Angeles low income housing complexes.

My students are some of the most creative 1st graders you can ever meet. They are smart enthusiastic learners who enjoy learning and listening to stories read to them.

My Project

My students have trouble expressing themselves either due to their needs in expressive language or articulation. Knowing that expressing feelings, thoughts and ideas is something that I really need to focus on, I incorporate theater arts in my classroom. My students love to perform their favorite stories in the class. I read many books to my students but certain books become very popular with them. I then either make a script for them to act out or let them improvise as they act out their favorite scenes. By doing this, I notice that my students not only develop better communication skills but begin to understand and love theater arts. We need a camera that will take photos/video of them in action while they perform their plays. The SD cards will be used to save their performances and then make a DVD for each student. My students also love music and get active and moving with it. We need the music CD's and speakers so that they can also continue their love for music.

Thank you for taking the time to read our project.

If you decide to donate, you will help my students perform and continue to love theater arts and music. You will help bring music and theater arts appreciation into my classroom.
