My Students

Help us become digitally published authors! We are in need of a few basic supplies. Our students need the exposure to digital resources and assignments if they are going to succeed in our ever changing society. It's difficult to create projects without the proper tools. These materials will help!

Our students are first graders at a Title I school.

They are inquisitive and eager but don't necessarily have the resources available to them to create digital projects. I'd love to see them blogging, creating journals, scanning in work and maintaining a digital portfolio. This class will be consistently exposed to assignments that stretch their minds in the content area and the options they have to show mastery of that content. Gone are the times for paper and pencil to rule the day to day. Because we come from a school where approximately 80% of the student body is economically disadvantaged, while parents are willing, they are not always able to help provide the resources to make our projects easier. Our students will grow in their understanding of computer functions and their ability to save work they created digitally. These materials will allow us to save all work without worrying about running out of space for the class to save assignments. We will be forever grateful!

My Project

The digital microphone will allow students to freely move around our school environment to interview experts or create podcasts. They will be able to record mini speeches and work on their reading fluency as well. The flash drives will be a great peace of mind, in that, each student will have access to their own flash drive. This will allow them to safely save all projects created throughout the year. Finally, the mice for the netbooks will make the computers more easily navigated for first grade fingers. Many students have a harder time using the finger pad to navigate through programs. Overall, these materials will work together to create an environment that is real world worthy. Students will benefit from learning basic computer functions and will take pride in the work they save throughout the year. I'm so excited to give them access to uploading projects they've created within blogs and portfolios. It will truly change how they look at turning in projects and presentations.

This project is important because these are kids that don't necessarily get a home exposure to computers and digital projects like others.

As their teacher, it is my job to broaden their ideas of necessary skills for future jobs. Anything I can do in my classroom to provide an opportunity that might not be possible otherwise, I will do. These are materials that will forever change the mindset about school projects for several first grade classes to come. Thank you for your help!
