Our school year is in full gear and my students are making it a memorable one filled with lots of learning, love, and laughter! It is very rewarding to be surrounded by these amazing First grader's and their curious minds, motivation, and eagerness to learn and interact with our classroom and school.
My overall goal is for my students to be successful, life-long learners.
Each day I have the opportunity to provide each of my students with the tools they need to accomplish this goal. Each child has different abilities and goals, but with hard work and determination, they are sure to reach or surpass their own potential. The pride and excitement these students have when attaining short term and long term goals is breathtaking. They gain so much new independence during their first grade year.
In our classroom, we try to intertwine play and learning on a daily basis. Bingo with our math skills would definitely capture my student's interest. It would allow us to continue reinforcing concepts like number recognition, addition, subtraction, and place value, which are all very important concepts for students to grasp in first grade. Not only are these important first grade standards, but it is also helping to provide a solid foundation of number sense.
The best part is that in the midst of learning, the students are having fun in an enjoyable environment!
Students are engaged and using the math strategies that they have previously learned to figure out the numbers being called. There are many variations that we can use for calling out numbers. A few examples include, having the caller call out the number shown on the card, call out how many tens and ones are in the number, call out an addition or subtraction sentence that equals the number or even 10 more or less than the number. It will keep the students attentive and their brain thinking. I know these new materials would bring smiles and excitement to my students as they participate in dabbing the paper cards, sliding covers on the easy read cards, and solving math problems! Learning through play is such a thrilling adventure!
