Help me give my students a healthy Speech Therapist. With the Logitech wireless keyboard, laptop stand and wireless mouse, I will be able to provide speech therapy services online during distance learning from a safe distance on screen.
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My students are curious learners and emerging young adults with special education needs. They are dominantly English Language Learners and from low SES households. They all have active Special Education IEPs with a wide range of disabilities, such as Intellectual Disability, Autism, and Attention Deficit Hyperactive Disorder. The majority of my students do not know how to read. I provide speech and language services to them. The past few months they have seen and heard so much about what is happening around the world and our country, including social justice and health reform. Due to Covid-19, they have been in distance learning for the past 7 months.
Health and education are two important priorities during distance learning.

My Project
My students and I have been in distance learning for 7 months now. I emphasize and tell my students the importance of limiting screen time to protect their eyes and for their health. This also includes staying a safe distance from the screen. With the wireless keyboard, laptop stand, and wireless mouse, I will be able to stay on screen for 6-8 hours a day helping students from a safe distance while protecting my eyes. In turn, I will stay energetic and healthy to provide therapy services and attend my students' IEP meetings. The USB port will allow the devices to all be connected. Activities we have been doing online to improve my students' speech and language skills include reading books, various online worksheets and videos, Boom cards, PowerPoint activities I make, and TPT materials to expand their language, elicit articulation speech sounds, and answering wh-, yes/no, and inferential questions. With the paper organizer I will organize the paper activities I scan and project online for therapy.
Being organized and staying healthy is more important than ever during distance learning.
These items will protect my vision and help me stay energetic and healthy to continue providing online speech therapy to my students during this pandemic.
