My students need iPads (technology) to help access print rich vocabulary/translation sites, virtual field trips, content lessons and enrichment activities to assist in our ESL math and science classroom.
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
I have a group of highly motivated students who thirst to learn science and math. They are all bi-lingual and come from homes that are mostly Spanish speaking. English is the second language for 99% of them and they work tirelessly to grasp English only math and science concepts.
My students show up everyday ready to learn and put their best foot forward to follow class/school rules and set examples for others to follow.
They are not strangers to hard work and even with the language barriers, they put their best foot forward on a daily basis.
My Project
Technology is a key tool to help with communication in my classroom. Many of my students are only exposed to the English language when they come to my science and math class. Math and science are subjects that are taught totally in English and as a result many of my students struggle with vocabulary. The ability to expose my students to vocabulary building activities through iPads helps not only prepare them for daily class activities and requirements but life in general.
Understanding vocabulary and exposure to technology are a key component for success in my math and science classroom.
The ability to expose students to hands on learning that will be conducted during small groups, station activities, and tutoring allows them valuable opportunity.
Vocabulary assistance and exposure to math and science skill building activities and videos will be the focus of this very valuable resource.
