Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Our students love to read. They're at an age where they want to show off their reading skills. This is also a perfect time for them to practice. Our students visit the library/ multimedia center often and look forward to getting the latest books.
I work for a low-income, Title I school.
Our students receive free lunch and breakfast. We have different programs that help out the students who need it the most. For example, we have the backpack food program, and we get coat and shoe donations.
It makes it challenging when we don't have the materials that motivate them. I often get asked if we have the latest books in our library, but, most of the time, we have the older versions. Their faces light up when I tell them we got a few new books.
Our students come from different ethnic backgrounds. They speak different languages.
My Project
My students need the essential cleaning supplies to maintain our classroom clean. With flu season in the air, many of my students have been getting sick. We try to prevent that by constantly disinfecting our work area and supplies that is being shared.
These supplies will help us avoid getting sick.
We will be able to clean after ourselves. These supplies are always asked for in the beginning of the school year so by this time we are already very low on them. The Lysol wipes and Kleenex run out fast and that’s okay because we are just trying to be clean. We are also constantly washing out hands to fight away the germs.
The other supplies such as the laminating sheets and book marks will help us keep track of our reading spot. I also use the laminating paper to make brag tags for our school's monthly celebration. Our students get rewarded with these tags.
