My Students

Many of my students are from low-income families and receive free lunch. Our school is the only high school in our area and this year 100% of the students will receive free breakfast and lunch for the school year. Sometimes, eating a healthy, well-balanced meal happens only in school for many of them. Being able to grow fruits, vegetables, and herbs for them to take home and share with their families is something we have been wanting to do in class for a long time. We also have livestock to take care of that we use as learning tools in the classroom. Taking the livestock section one step further and harvesting them for food will teach the students even more about self-sustainability.

Sharing the bounty they raise in class with their families will solidify the teachings and experiences they have in class.

They will be able to share with others how they worked and harvested what they grew and raised then turn around and share with their families what we ate.

My Project

We go through a lot of trash bags on the farm when we are clearing land and throwing trash. It has come to the point that the custodians said they can't give us anymore cleaning supplies. This project will allow us to have our own supplies of trash bags and hand soap for our students to stay clean. The masks are because I have smaller students that have a hard time with the adult masks. Everything here will help us stay clean and safe.

Supplies go so fast when you're working hard in our classroom, and these back-up items will come in very handy.

We have been meaning to get push brooms for the farm for a while, and they will be used to keep the walkways and garden area clean and tidy. My students really strive to keep the garden nice and clean, and that is ultimately teaching them to have pride for their actions, both in school and at home. My goal is for them to learn to do a good job the first time so we don't have to go back and fix things later.
