My Students

I teach Special Education at a Title I elementary school in Atkins, AR. Being a Title I school, I serve many low income families. I have a range of students from kindergarten through fourth grade that I see daily. I teach two subjects: language and math. My kids have a love for learning and deserve to have the supplies needed to do so. Each year I see many students that I served the year before, so I am able to make lasting relationships with the students and their families. This helps me best determine what materials will help my students continue to succeed and grow.

My Project

The materials included in this project will help me keep my onsite students safe and healthy. With Covid-19 being an issue and flu season here, we have to be extremely careful about keeping the level of germs to a minimum. My classroom is a pullout room so I have 7 different classes each day that come to me. I disinfect my room between each class, so we go through a lot of cleaning supplies.

I have requested disinfectant wipes, hand sanitizer wipes, and face masks to get us through the rest of this school year in an onsite environment.

The face masks will be used to provide students who forget to bring a mask to school. The masks will also be given to students who end up breaking or dirtying their masks during the day. Many of the students who wear a cloth mask end up chewing on their masks before the day is up making it no longer effective.

This project will directly impact historically underfunded classrooms.
