My Students
I teach Deaf and Hard of Hearing students at a high-poverty, inner-city K-8 school. Many of our students have a hearing loss which can range from mild to profound. Some students communicate with American Sign Language, others rely on spoken English, and others use a combination of both. There are also hearing students who know and learn American Sign Language at our school.
My students come from poverty, making it challenging for them to have the things they need to be successful in school. My project is aimed at helping alleviate the financial burden, so they can come to school without worrying about things.
My Project
My students come from low socioeconomic homes, where clean clothes and hygiene supplies are not always available. I have requested paper towels, soap, Lysol wipes, extra changes of clothing, and several other items aimed at helping students stay clean and healthy.
This project is everything to my students, because it targets their basic needs. Please help them feel confident in their appearance and cleanliness at school, so they can learn without worrying. My students often have clothes that are too small or ripped and frequently wear the same clothes all year long. I am hoping these items will alleviate stress for both the students and their families.
