This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
The brain is approximately 73% water which is why Pre-K students are supposed to drink 40 oz of water per day. A lack of proper hydration can have an impact on cognitive processing, mood, and overall brain health. We constantly remind our students to stay hydrated, but we are using the water from the school fountain for bottle refills. Our building is old, the pipes are old, and lead has been found in different rooms on and off throughout the years. We'd like to have our own trusted filter so we can stop worrying that we are feeding our students unhealthy water.
It is 2025 and it astounds me that we are having concerns with air and water quality in our older NYC schools, but that is our reality every day, and the reality of our young learners in their first years of school.
Please help us do what we can to protect their bodies and brains while under our care.
