I teach a diverse group of twenty-five kindergartners in a high poverty neighborhood. Every morning, my students enter our classroom with a lot of energy and an appetite for learning. I can see their eyes quickly scan the room to see what exciting learning opportunities await.

I absolutely love it! My students come from a variety of socioeconomic backgrounds, but they all love to learn and experience new things. As their teacher, it is my goal to motivate my students and teach the whole child.
All of my kindergartners come from a wide range of backgrounds, languages and academic abilities. Many of them come from families living in poverty and face various challenges. I teach English learners and students with special needs such as autism, ADD and ADHD. All of my students come to school every day excited to learn. They are a great group of kids who love school and love learning!
My Project
As a kindergarten teacher, I strive to keep my classroom as clean and germ-free as possible. Most of my students are starting their first experience in a school and being exposed to more germs than the first five years of their life. They are building immunities during this critical year. I would like to get a vacuum so that we can quickly clean up in our classroom. Kindergarten is hands-on and messy! It would be so nice to have a vacuum at the touch of my hands to clean up play doh, snacks, paper cuttings, etc. Almost all of the activities in kindergarten are hands-on. Therefore, we use a lot of manipulatives and everything is touched by multiple students throughout the day. Lysol spray will be essential in getting rid of germs.
I believe that a clean environment will help increase the daily attendance of my kindergarteners, and thus, increase learning.
I would like to use the vacuum to clean up in between the custodial cleanings. I would like to share with colleagues on my site. I am also requesting Lysol disinfectant spray, cleaning cloths, and foam eraser pads so that I can wipe down surfaces and clean the heavily used manipulatives. These items will allow me to create a cleaner and healthier environment for my current and future classes. A clean classroom=increased attendance=more learning!
