This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
The abundance of strength and passion for success within my students is truly inspiring. They constantly express their desire to be in school, engage, and create new language homes within the classroom. Many of them have not had full access to education in the past, nor do they have access to hygiene products in the present.
However, witnessing the doors of opportunity wide open is a transformative experience for more than just a few.
Each hygiene item is a tool I can provide to help them cultivate their trust in the power of a classroom and the possibility of an education that highlights all aspects of their humanity. Items such as toothbrushes, hairbrushes, and menstrual kits are as vital to their learning. Just a pair of socks, towels, and underwear will help keep them clean and even warm this winter as they travel far to school. These items may seem small for us but as a first-generation child of immigrant parents and siblings, I want them to develop a deep love and trust for school, just as I did. Help me equip my students with the essentials they need to pursue their dreams.
