This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My students attend a Pre-K through elementary school in New York.
Our school is located in one of the poorest congressional districts in the nation.
Many of my students have special needs, are repeating a grade or are struggling academically to achieve grade level expectations. Many of my students are from single-parent homes and reside in nearby public housing.
"Asking for help when you need it is a sign of strength, not weakness" ~Jesse Lyn Stoner.
My students are a hard-working group who are persistent and determined to do well in school. They need essential resources to enable them to maximize learning opportunities and help them to do their best work every day.
My Project
"An apple a day keeps the doctor away."
My students are learning about the importance of daily attendance.
They know and understand that when you miss a day from school, you will miss a lot. Attendance matters! My students need facial tissues, hand soap, disinfecting wipes, paper towels, and hand-sanitizer to kill the germs that cause the sneezing, sniffing, and coughing that they say usually comes with the arrival of cooler weather. The alcohol pads and disinfecting wipes will be used to wipe off headphones in our listening center, keyboards and other commonly used items. The pretzels will provide my students with a healthy, nutritious snacking option.
Ah choo! That is a sound that can be heard in my classroom nearly every day. The cold and flu season can be particularly hard on my students. When my students miss a day from school, they miss a lot--attendance matters. Being marked present is an essential first-step to providing them with a quality education.
With your help, my students can use the liquid soap to learn proper hand washing techniques and have facial tissues for running noses. These resources are essential for promoting overall health and wellness and keeping a classroom clean-because daily attendance matters!
