My Project

My school is in a high poverty area. My kindergarteners come from low income families that are struggling to make ends meet. Many families are single parent homes who are working hard to keep a roof over their child's head. Many days an older sibling helps younger siblings get ready for school. As a result hygiene is overlooked. All students receive free breakfast and lunch everyday. Even with these meals provided, students still get hungry and would like to have a daily snack time. Some students are able to bring a snack from home, however most are not able to sent a snack in. Providing a daily snack is an expense I am not able to tackle.

Providing personal hygiene items and a daily snack would help instill confidence in my learners so they can do their best.

I would like to have toothbrushes and toothpaste for each child so they can brush their teeth on the mornings that they forget to at home. The baby wipes will be helpful for students to clean up their face or any other part of themselves that needs to be refreshed (our classroom has a bathroom so they can do this in private). The snacks will allow me to provide students with a healthy snack everyday. I know that these snacks will not last all year but it will last me for awhile an will be less I have to purchase out of my pocket.
