This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Our school is in the heart of a large, urban neighborhood. Many of our students live in high poverty where many of our their basic needs are unmet.
Our school has a uniform policy so that all students can have an appearance of equality, and to minimize inappropriate and gang related clothing.
Unfortunately, some families are unable to afford multiple sets of uniforms and in some cases cannot afford any. Therefore, we have many students who come to school in dirty clothes. In the interest of providing the students with an optimal learning environment, we find that the school must help our students by meeting some of the basic needs that are not being met at home.
We are looking to provide our students with clean clothes to help them put more of their focus on curriculum while they are in school. With a washer and dryer we can keep our students uniforms clean and help our students to feel good about their appearance.
My Project
The washer and dryer will provide our students with clean clothing and clean uniforms.
Many students are ashamed by their appearance when they come into school wearing dirty clothing.
This project will provide them with the opportunity to not have to worry about whether their clothing is clean or not. Once our students no longer have to worry about being clean or not, they will be able to put more of a focus on their education and learning.
No elementary school student should have to worry about their appearance, especially worrying if their clothing is clean. We want our students to be proud of themselves and focus on their learning!
