I am the intervention specialist in a second grade full inclusion classroom. Not only do I co-teach in the classroom, I also manage the IEPs and goals of the 8 students with disabilities. In the school system where I teach, more than half of our students are low-income students. More often than not, most of my students come to school without even their most basic needs being met. Even with these barriers, this does not stop my amazing students from coming to school eager and anxious to learn and be the best they can be!
My students' disabilities range from mild to intensive, so I strive to make sure all of my students learn, no matter their ability level, in this setting.
There is a lot of differentiated teaching and learning going on throughout the day to make sure I am meeting the needs of all of the students. This typically means I need to make sure I have a variety of resources at my fingertips to be able to provide my students with everything they need to be able to learn. My goal is to set them up to be independent, contributing members to society in the future!
My Project
I really want to have a couple of sets of clean clothes left in my classroom for a few students in need. Some days students come to school with clothes that don't fit, clothes that don't smell clean, and sometimes accidents happen.
No matter the situation, I would love to have some clean clothes on hand so my students can feel good about themselves.
We had amazing donors donate a washer and dryer to our school. My hope is to have my students change into clean clothes that are supplied to them while I wash their soiled clothes.
Second grade is still a time of innocence, but as the year goes on, students become more aware of one another and their differences. I want my students to feel clean and confident around their peers, not embarrassed over something they cannot control.
Additionally, we are completely out of tissues and we are only halfway through the year. Also, the flu-bug has hit and I want to spray my room with Lysol to rid of all the germs! Please help us reach our of being a clean and confident classroom!
