This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
In our last project of the first semester, we will learn about the impact of air quality on health. My students will use air testers to measure carbon dioxide (CO₂) levels and particulate matter inside our classrooms and outside. We will focus on watching the levels of CO2 inside our classroom and compare it to CO2 levels outside. We are concerned as, according to Daniel Grossman from Yale Climate Connection, "Three recent studies of people breathing indoors have documented subtle declines in thinking ability when carbon dioxide increases to 1,000 ppm, more than two-and-a-half times as much as in today’s ambient air." We want clean air in as many classrooms as possible so that we can stay focused on learning.
The supplies I'm requesting will allow my students to build 12 Do-It-Yourself (DIY) Air Filtration (Corsi-Rosenthal) Boxes.
We aim to improve indoor air quality and provide boxes to needy families and classrooms. To build these air purifiers, we will partner with the Public Health Services—Epidemiology and Immunizations Services Branch (EISB) of the County of San Diego Health and Human Services Agency.
