My Project
My goal for this project is to create a safe and supportive environment where students can ask for the hygiene items they need without shame. I want them to feel empowered to take care of themselves and understand that their well-being matters. My students are special because they are hardworking, resilient, and full of potential, despite the challenges they face. Many of them come from impoverished backgrounds, yet they continue to show up every day with a desire to learn and grow. This project is not just about hygiene—it’s about dignity, confidence, and giving these students the tools they need to succeed in and beyond the classroom.
When students lack essentials like soap, washcloths, toothpaste, deodorant, and mouthwash, it can negatively impact their confidence, social interactions, and ability to concentrate in class.
Soap and washcloths help them stay clean, preventing skin issues and promoting good hygiene habits. Toothpaste and mouthwash contribute to oral health, which is essential for preventing pain and discomfort that could interfere with learning. Deodorant helps students feel fresh and confident, reducing social anxiety and embarrassment. No child should have to worry about body odor, bad breath, or feeling unclean while trying to learn. By addressing these basic needs, students will be able to participate more fully in class, interact with their peers without fear of judgment, and focus on their academic success.
