My Students

Many of the students in my classroom have experienced trauma in their lives, and school is their safe place. They come to school to escape what is happening at home. My classroom serves students with a range of disabilities, including intellectual disabilities, emotional disturbance, autism spectrum disorder, and specific learning disabilities.

The typical student in my class struggles with basic phonemic awareness and letter recognition.

About 90% of my students are African American or Latino. The opportunity and achievement gaps are apparent among our student population.

My Project

I am requesting some new books for our library, but also I am requesting some Lysol wipes, paper towels, and Lysol spray. My hope with this project is that I can give my students a few more books from an author they love. But, I also want to give the students disinfectant wipes and spray to keep their books germ free. There is so much sickness going around, and I want to keep my students, and myself, as healthy as possible. With this project, we will have the cleanest library in the school, and that is a gift any teacher would love!
