Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Our band is made up of twenty-eight students grades 7-12, and they have had quite a year. The band received a First Division at UIL Marching Contest for the first time in 15 years and is working towards their first UIL Sweepstakes Award for the first time in 16 years in March of 2015.

Our band program is made up of two groups: sixth grade beginning band and the high school band grades 7-12.

The school provides all band instruments, as well as supplies such as reeds, cleaning supplies, and valve oil to all students involved in the band program at no cost to the students. Most of our students could not afford to be in band if this policy was not in place. Providing all instruments and supplies puts quite a strain on our limited school budget and at times materials we just have to wait for resources. Despite the limited resources, the band is successful and does their best with what they have. The students have creative ways to help make things work and even give love offerings whenever they do get something from the supply cabinet. The band is made up of a group of students who truly love making music and work extremely hard every day despite their circumstances.

My Project

The students will begin to use these cleaning supplies everyday. After finishing their playing for the day, the student will be able to remove their spit, any condensation, as well as any other debris from the instrument. Not only will this help prolong the life of the instrument, it will help prevent the spread of germs from day to day if a student is sick and plays their instrument.

This project will help ease the strain on the band's supply budget and help prolong the lives of the instruments in our inventory.

The cleaning rods and cleaning cloths will be used daily to remove debris from the instruments. Your contributions will help these kids continue to make beautiful music for years to come
