it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
I'm requesting cleaning spray and rags, disinfecting wipes, and paper towels to keep the classroom clean. While our custodians do a great job cleaning, we want to take ownership in being able to deep clean our multifunctional positive and safe learning environment. There are memes online about how institutional paper towels just don't do the trick. We need to supplement this. If each student in a class helps clean for five minutes, that will equal over 2 hours of cleaning. Then, each student has a sense of pride in our classroom community.
To create a welcoming and supportive learning environment, I want to stock the classroom with essential cleaning supplies such as hand sanitizer, moisturizing lotion, and gentle hand so students can clean and care for their skin properly after each class, reducing irritation and promoting comfort.
Ceramics classes can be incredibly rewarding but also messy and physically demanding.
After working with clay, glazes, and underglazes—often for hours—students’ hands become dry, cracked, and covered with stubborn residues. This can make it uncomfortable for them to focus or continue working throughout the day.
Providing these basic but important items shows students that a clean classroom and their well-being matters and helps them maintain healthy habits while engaging deeply with their creative work. Since I typically buy these supplies out of pocket, securing funding to provide them for the entire class would make a big difference.
