Clean Air, Clear Minds

Help me give my students an air purifier, plants and planting supplies to create a clean, calm classroom.

My Project

The pandemic was hard on schools, but especially teenagers. Incidences of anxiety and depression are higher than ever before and kids are looking for calm environments in which to learn. Students are still learning how to transition from online learning platforms to in-person learning and technology is a big distraction. Studies have shown that plants help students focus, relieves stress and has the added benefit of cleaning the air naturally.

Clean indoor air can help kids focus better on learning and helps prevent health issues like flu, colds, anxiety and asthma attacks.

Keeping kids in school where they can learn and grow is an important goal for the state of Nevada as we exit the pandemic. An air purifier will help clean the air of harmful chemicals and particulate matter, while the plants provide something for students to focus on when they need a mental break. The plants also help produce oxygen and filter the air, which improves air quality. Overall, I want to create a more calming, natural environment with fresh air that helps students focus and relax so they can improve their learning.

My students are primarily sophomores at a large suburban/rural high school. They are curious about things outside of chemistry and physical science and love learning about the world around them.
